Adoption and Feeding Issues

 Meet Emily and baby ClaraEmily.jpg

Thanks to the incredible generosity of our MMC Donor-Members, we've been able to collect enough Pay It Forward donor milk to provide baby Clara with her own special supply. Read Emily's story below and learn how our Pay It Forward program impacted their lives!

My baby was born one month early and in the NICU for a full week. My daughter, Clara, was only four and half pounds and had to be in an incubator. This was a stressful time for both of us. I wanted to do everything that I could possibly do to help my daughter thrive. I knew about the importance of breast milk and how it can provide a baby with essential nutrients, especially a baby born prematurely.  So, I was elated when I was able to get things set up with the Mothers Milk Cooperative.

As a single parent with only one income, I knew that I could not afford donor breast milk. I am so grateful for the "Pay It Forward" program. My daughter is doing wonderfully. She had a lot of reflux issues and discomfort and since she has had the breast milk, she is so much better. Also, she gained weight rapidly. She is now five months and over 14 pounds already! She sleeps through the night, and everyone is always commenting on her peaceful and happy nature. She is thriving and healthy! I feel so blessed.

babyclara.jpgAs an adoptive parent, and as a single parent, there have been and there will continue to be so many challenges and things that I cannot control; so, it has given me such a peace of mind to know that I was able to give my daughter breast milk in the early months of her life. Here are two photos of us. One, when Clara was only a month old and this Halloween photo, my little owl at 4 months.claraowl.jpg

Thank you! We are so grateful!

Emily and Clara

It is common for premature babies like Clara to continue to experience gastrointestinal issues long after leaving the NICU. Providing donor milk to premature infants who do not otherwise have access to breast milk is crucial in helping them continue to thrive.

How Do I Help "Pay It Forward"?

clara2.jpgAs a Donor-Member, every time you receive a cooler from Mother's Milk Cooperative, you have an opportunity to "Pay it Forward" if you choose. Breast milk donations placed into the white Pay it Forward bag inside your cooler are provided to babies in need, whose families would not have access to donor milk without your help!

If you would like more information about participating in Pay it Forward, or if you know someone who is in need of donor milk and might not otherwise have access to it due to personal and/or financial hardships, please contact us at help@mothersmilk.coop!
